Gina Caronna, Dean of Career and Technical Education and Community Outreach for Rock Valley College will be the guest speaker at the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers) Rock River Valley Section Meeting on Thursday, August 31, 2017, at Rock Valley College’s Woodward Technology Center (WTC), room 1322, on the RVC main campus (3301 North Mulford Road).
Ms. Caronna will speak about the NIU at RVC engineering program offered at RVC, the future of engineering and manufacturing, and on the aerospace opportunities in Rockford. Networking will begin at 6:00 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m., and the presentation by Ms. Caronna at 7:15 p.m. Dinner is free for IEEE members, $10 for non- IEEE members, and $5 for non- IEEE member students. Anyone who wishes to attend the presentation only may do so for free.
Caronna helped establish a partnership with Northern Illinois University, collaborating to offer an engineering bachelor’s degree at the RVC campus. She manages all aspects of the program, including curriculum development and expansion, and renovation of facilities and labs. She also assisted the RVC Foundation in securing funds of over $6.5 million from corporate and individual donors.
Caronna helped develop and expand RVC’s Aviation Maintenance program in conjunction with local community leaders and AAR Corp. The program has grown from four full-time faculty with 40 students to eight full-time faculty and 120 students. Caronna pioneered development and installation of two Flexible Learning Labs, facilitating the integration of 21st century skills learning into the technical classroom. She created a talent pipeline training in conjunction with Woodward, Inc., resulting in over 150 people gaining employment and enrolling for course work.
Caronna received her Ed.M.S. in Education from the University of Illinois, Champaign, IL and a B.S. from Rockford College. She is also a certified teacher trainer for the High Scope Educational Foundation.
