“Hoo” Haven Wildlife Tour
 

(Ages 12-Adult) Come and see what is in your own backyard while learning how you too can help. We are all part of Mother Earth and her fragile balance and, yes, one person can make a difference. The tour takes a little over one hour. Plan on asking lots of questions as we love to answer them.

Wear: Comfortable shoes and layered clothing for weather. Cameras are permitted.

At the end of the tour you can visit “The Gazebo” where we have items specially made for “Hoo” to purchase to help support us. As we say at Hoo Haven, “if a picture is worth a thousand words, than an animal is worth a thousand pictures."

Neighborhood Naturalist
 

(Ages 5-Adult) This course strives to expose participants to nature in its urban forms and to provide guidance on identify­ing local plants and animals while encouraging the develop­ment of more natural spaces, working with nature in our urban setting and sharing this information with others.

  • First session: Aspects of art and journaling to record nature observations
  • Second session: Birds and other wildlife
  • Third session: Insects and urban agriculture/gardening
  • Fourth session: Trees and water in an urban landscape

Bring: A notebook.

Dress: Appropriately for being outdoors (for trails and other outdoor spaces).

Dates: Saturdays- 6/11, 6/25, 7/9, 7/23, 9:00 a.m.-noon (4 sessions).Students are not required to attend all sessions as each is a stand-alone module.

Family Friendly Farm Overnight
 

(All Ages) Come pitch a tent in the savanna and enjoy family time, outdoor activities, a farm tour, interacting with the animals and optional work projects. Make dinner and breakfast with ingredients from the farm. An evening campfire is included— you bring the marshmallows! !

Bring: Camping gear.

4th of July Family Campout
 

(All Ages) Start a new family tradition with a 4th of July camping trip on the farm. We’ll play games, do farm work, hike to the creek and enjoy evening campfires. We’ll even cook up meals with ingredients straight from the farm.

Bring: Tent and gear, plus clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. Register for parents and kids ages 3 and up.

Artists' Tour
 

(Adult) Join us for an artists’ eye tour of Angelic Organics, the Biodynamic vegetable farm in northern Illinois featured in the award-winning documentary film The Real Dirt on Farmer John. We will explore what makes this a Biodynamic and community supported agriculture (CSA) farm, with a focus on the farm itself as an artistic creation.

Bring: Sketchbook or camera, as you’ll have plenty of time to capture the evening. Camping on farm is an option to capture sunrise on the farm. Please call or email to inquire. Professionals and amateurs alike are welcome!

Secrets to Winning College Scholarships
 

(High School-Adult) From one family to another, come learn the secrets of college financial aid as well as scholarship searches and application tips. The lessons you learn in this seminar will help both parents and teens find the best schol­arship opportunities and use proven strategies that can win college financial aid.

Rock Valley Festival Orchestra
 

(Adult) The Rock Valley Festival Orchestra is a collaborative effort between the Rockford Park District, the Music Academy of Rockford and Rock Valley College. The orchestra is led by Michael Beert, Professor of Music at Rock Valley College and director of the Rock Valley College and Community Orchestra. Join us for the performance  scheduled for Tuesday, August 2 at 7:00 p.m. at the Sinnissippi Band Shell.

Old Settlers &  Threshers Reunion
 

(Adults & Families) This is a fun trip for every generation! The Thresher’s Reunion in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, has multiple working exhibits of how life used to be, and these things won’t be around forever. Share this unique experience with your grandkids! You can drive a tractor, go to a horse pull, visit a one-room schoolhouse and experience all the elements of living in a simpler time. Ground transportation at the event includes a real San Francisco street car! Price includes transportation form RVC, two nights lodging, admission to the grounds and two breakfasts. You will be on your own for lunch and dinner. This safari will include optional educational presentations, and, as always, some Adventure Safari surprises. Come prepared for fun at the premiere threshing show in the nation.
