Rock Valley College offers several opportunities to earn credit for knowledge obtained outside of the traditional college classroom.
For all testing programs, official transcripts must be submitted directly from the specific credit by exam testing program. Rock Valley College residency requirements must be met for all students using credit-by-exam towards a degree. Credit earned by examination will not be awarded for the same course more than once. Each testing program recognized by Rock Valley College has its own credit awarding criteria and is subject to change.
Credit may be awarded through one of the following programs:
The College-Level Examination Program (CLEP) is a national program of credit by examination that gives you the opportunity to receive college credit for what you already know.
Through College Board Advanced Placement (AP) Exams, you have the opportunity to earn credit or advanced standing at most of the nation's colleges and universities, including Rock Valley College.
The nationally recognized DSST Program allows you to earn college credit for learning acquired outside of the traditional classroom.
Students participating in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IB) are eligible to receive credit at RVC.
If your academic goals include transferring to another academic institution, it is your responsibility to verify the acceptance policy at that academic institution.
