The Smoke-Free Campus Act prohibits smoking on all Illinois state-supported higher education institutions, including public university and community college campuses.
The campus' policy supports and builds upon the state's Smoke Free Illinois Act (410 ILCS 82/), which is in effect throughout the RVC campus. The American College Health Association has also advocated that all colleges and universities attain a 100 percent tobacco-free environment. As of July 1, 2015, more than 1500 college campuses across the country have enacted 100 percent smoke-free or tobacco-free policies, with the trend steadily increasing for the past few years.
Rock Valley College is in compliance with the law and continues to implement the other aspect of the law-education and notice of the health consequences and assistance for anyone seeking to reduce or quit smoking.
